The Year of the Snack
Bold flavors, interactive packaging, and an increase in snacking lead the food trends for 2014. Consumers are now beginning to associate snacking with better health with nearly 60 percent of all snack foods being positioned as healthy. Retailers will be capitalizing on the healthier snacking trend, replacing traditional high-sugar, high-fat snacks with healthier on-the-go offerings.
Grab-and-go snacking continues to grow. Food created to enjoy while multi-tasking, such as nuts, snack mixes, and candy will continue to increase in sales. Be sure to check out Tropical’s Grabeez line of grab-and-go products in a variety of flavors.
Finally, packaging will evolve to match consumers’ desire for more information. Utilizing QR codes, consumers will be able to learn more information about products and access recipes and videos. Millenials continue to make snacking social, with 57% of Pinterest offering food related content.
