Celebrating Team Tropical: Donnie Byers

In our Celebrating Team Tropical series, we commemorate our employees’ work anniversaries by getting to know them and their role at Tropical better. Donnie Byers, who has been with us 25 years, was our very first truck driver in Charlotte!

Tell us about your role at Tropical:

I’m a truck driver, and an ambassador for the company. I’m often the face our customers see the most, so I do my best to provide good customer service.

What’s your favorite part of your job?

I enjoy meeting the customers while making deliveries!

What project/success are you most proud of here?

I am proud of how much Tropical has expanded over the years. I helped pick out the first truck here in Charlotte, and now we have 3!

What’s your favorite memory from working here?

My favorite memory is the great working relationship I had with our founder, Mr. York.

What is on your wish list for your next five years here?

To help the company grow, and to retire!

What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t doing this?

I would be a high school football coach.

If you could choose anyone, who would you pick as your mentor?

I would chose Barack Obama as my mentor

I have 18 brothers and sisters.
