Celebrating Team Tropical: Todd Amato

October 19, 2018

Todd Amato, Territory Manager

In our Celebrating Team Tropical series, we commemorate our employees’ work anniversaries by getting to know them and their role at Tropical Foods better. Meet Todd who is a Territory Manager out of our Memphis office. He celebrates 8 YEARS with the company this week!

Tell us about your role at Tropical:

I have worked for Tropical Foods for 8 years. My main role is selling our products and services to corporate dining services, hospitals, hotels, large sporting venues, and colleges to achieve company goals.

What’s your favorite part of your job?

My favorite part of my job is the interaction with my customers and getting to know them. I have developed friendships and professional relationships with many people. I enjoy the family atmosphere that Tropical Foods has to offer.

What project/success are you most proud of here?

When I started with Tropical the north territory was new for Tropical Foods. Now the territory is a profitable area for the Tropical brand.

What’s your favorite memory from working here?

I have many good memories. My favorite memory was hitting my first annual sales projection – remember, this was a new territory for Tropical Foods when I started.

What is on your wish list for your next five years here?

Continue to build the Tropical brand. Strive to be the best partner/vendor to our customers. We have awesome quality products and I try to give the best customer service possible.

What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t doing this?

In the past I was a DDI (Development Dimensions International) instructor I would get back into working with companies to train general managers, sales managers, and key account managers to develop a positive productive work force.

If you could choose anyone, who would you pick as your mentor?

I have had a very supportive family. My father taught me my work ethic – do the job as if you were signing your name to it. My brother taught me integrity and how to balance my family and work. And just for the record, my wife Dawn says “behind every successful man is a good woman”.

Tell us something that might surprise us about you:

When I was younger I taught sailing. In my first job interview, I misspoke (I was 13) and ended up working at a full service gas station which included moving cars into service bays. No drivers license – and no accidents. I needed some money!

If they made a movie of your life, who would play you?

Ben Affleck – HA!
