Chartwells is a diverse family of food and nutrition specialists dedicated to providing the academic community with innovative, healthy dining options. From kindergarten to college, the foods we serve helps fuel the ideas and dreams of future generations. But we do more than feed hungry students. We practice a single-minded commitment to building strong bodies, sharp minds, and establishing the foundation for a long, healthier life.

We offer several dining options on the UNC Asheville campus that provide both made-to-order and grab-and-go food options, as well as a full array of beverages, snacks, local products, and much more!

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT YOUR JOB?

I love the ability that I have in this role to positively impact the long-term health outcomes of the students at UNCA- whether it’s adding healthier options into our dining outlets, providing educational wellness tables, providing group education, or counseling students one-on-one about how to make healthier lifestyle choices!

ANY RETAIL TIPS AND TRICKS?

This year I ordered 3 varieties of the bulk Snack Mixes, provided an educational wellness table about the health benefits of trail mix as a fuel source, and let students sample each variety to then vote on their favorite.

We introduced the winning flavors into the retail units and marketed them with our own campus related names/brands. We are at UNC Asheville and our mascot is a bulldog so one we called “Appalachian Trail Mix” and the other we called “Bull Dog Bites”! This allowed for students to feel ownership of this healthy option to encourage sales! They have been selling well!

WHAT TROPICAL PRODUCTS DO YOU USE?

We sell TONS of Tropical products throughout our units. We currently are selling different varieties of the Grabeez line, the York’s Harvest Garden Chips line, the Snack Bags, Resealable Cubes line, Snack Mixes and much more.

PERSONAL FAVORITE TROPICAL PRODUCT?

My personal favorite snack is the Student Food trail mix.

The reps always go above and beyond for me when something is needed.
